Preferential Behavior of Pontoporeia affinis Lindstrom (Crustacea, Amphipoda)

B. Z. Kaufman
Institute of Biology Russian Academy of Sciences Petrozavodsk, Russia

SINOPSIS

Photo-, thermo-, halo-, and pH-preferendums of Pontoporeia affinis as a representative of freshwater organisms were studied. The individuals demonstrated a distinct daily rhythm of photopreferendum, as well as stable values of thermo-, halo-, and pH-preferendums during the day. The causes and evolutionary significance of these responses are discussed.
