ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE COMPRESSION IN SECTIONS OF HELICALLY COILED WAVEGUIDES
SINOPSIS
The possibility of coiling the extended waveguide sections in order to minimize their physical dimension is analyzed. It is shown that the power and dispersion characteristics of such relatively compact waveguide structures are close to those of straight waveguide segments of identical lengths. Propagation of broadband pulses in coiled waveguide sections is modeled. Dynamics of pulse deformation is analyzed. The obtained results give grounds to state that application of coiled waveguide sections in passive systems of pulse compression is feasible. This opens new capabilities for the design and optimization of pulsed sources of centimeter and millimeter wavelength range (Ku-, K- and Ka-bands) that use the principle of electromagnetic pulse compression.
