Distance Resolution of Video Pulse Radars in a Lossy Medium with Dispersive Properties

SINOPSIS

A technique for optimum signal reception has been developed for the case of super-wide-band pulse detection and ranging of a pair of point-size objects in a lossy medium with dispersive properties, and the radar range resolution has been found in dependence on the signal and noise spectra. It is demonstrated that even in the case of an arbitrarily small separation of the elements of the double object the latter can be discriminated from a single object with the same reflecting properties with a reliability as high as desired if the signal-to-noise ratio is sufficiently great. The results proceed essentially from the point-size nature of the objects.
