SINOPSIS

Operational properties and marketing of the fiber-optic data transmission system (FODTS) are largely dependent upon the quality of the components being used: i.e. fiber-optic cables, split and non-split connectors, optical switches, etc.
The problem of the technological provision of the nigh quality of components derives from the fact that the geometric dimensions of components, the tolerances of the form and position are in the narrow range of units and even fractions of the micrometer.
The required quality parameters can only be guarantied using the precision equipment of automated inspection to check quality and through the use of effective data processing algorithms [1].
The basic determining geometrical parameters of the OFDTS components manufacture are the diameter of the multimode optic-fiber core and cladding, the diameter of the single-mode optical-fiber mode field, the coordinates of the mode-field center with respect to the forming surfaces of structural elements (for instance, alignment of the optic-fiber core and the cylindrical fittings of the split optical connectors). In order to establish and provide the technological inspection to check quality of the values of the indicated magnitudes are best suited the optical methods of the non-destructive testing, which are based on the recording of the distribution of the radiation intensity from the light-conductor and in the near and far fields. This radiation results from the interaction of probing optical field with an object to be controlled.
