NANOCYLINDERS OF NOBLE METALS AS SCATTERERS OF PLANE ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE
SINOPSIS
Nanowires and nanotubes of the noble metals are widely used in today's technologies as elements of lasers, biosensors and other devices. However, not all possible features arising in studies of such objects are presented in literature. In this paper, by means of numerical simulation, the golden and silver cylindrical nanoobjects are considered as special prisms capable of selecting the isolated wavelengths and direct them at different angles. For this purpose, the scattering of a plane H polarized electromagnetic wave of the visible band is studied by the nanocylinders with or without concentric dielectric coating or by the silver and golden nanotubes. The scattering problem is solved in the classical manner: by separation of variables in the polar cylindrical coordinates. The complex permittivity is used in computations for the gold and the silver derived from published experimental data. The results indicate that nano-objects can serve as a frequency-selective directional coupler, receiver, or an optical filter, which selects and sheds some wavelengths along different angles. The final result substantially depends on the geometrical size of the scatterer and the dielectric constant of the coating.
