NUMERICAL DETERMINATION OF HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT IN CHANNELS BY PLACING FINS AT THE ENTRANCE
ABSTRAKT
Heat transfer through parallel plates and rectangular channels is often encountered in industry (heat exchangers) or in the domain of solar energy(transfer to radiation-heat carrying fluids). In order to enhance heat transfer in these geometries, fins are added so as to perturb the fluid. This research determines the heat transfer characteristics when the fins are placed at the entrance of the channels and when conduction through the fins is taken into account (conjugate heat transfer by convection and conduction). The thickness of channel walls is also taken into account. The method used for solving the adimensional conservation equations is the finite volume method in conjunction with power law differencing scheme for convective fluxes and SIMPLER algorithm for pressure. The results obtained showed a considerable change in Nusselt number due to this modification in geometry.
