Physics underlying Realizability Constraints
ABSTRAKT
Realizability is an important mathematical constraint on turbulence closure models. It arises from the requirement that the turbulence processes implied by statistical closure models must be physically feasible. The realizability constraint can be imposed at various levels of turbulence closure. In this paper, we will compare the different formulations of realizability constraints. The realizability of Boussinesq constitutive model will be discussed in detail. At this level, the constraint arises due to the positive semi-definite nature of the Reynolds stress tensor. The flow physics underlying realizability constraints at two-equation level of closure is addressed.
