LES as a general tool for predicting turbulent flows
ABSTRAKT
The main purpose of this paper is to assess the LES based techniques across the variety of applications and ultimately answer whether it can be used as a general predicting tool for industrial turbulent flows. In order to do so we apply the LES to different type of flows and across the variety of Reynolds numbers. Following flows have been considered: fully developed channel flow, flow over circular cylinder at sub-critical Re number, flow in swirling coaxial jet and flow over open cavity. It is shown that LES based technique can very accurately predict these flows without any significant change to the model formulation. It leads us to the conclusion that this technique coupled with suitable solver technology is already capable of delivering accurate results across different applications which in a turn means that with increasing computer power it can eventually replace RANS as a standard predicting tool for turbulent fluid flow.
