ABSTRAKT

The second order turbulence model proposed in [1] is extended by deriving equations for the concentration correlations. For this purpose, a probability density function (PDF) approach is used, in order to preserve the self-coherency of the model, and reduce the number of additional coefficients. Then, the properties of the extended model in stably stratified turbulence are examined. An analytical solution is provided, which shows that the extended model has the ability to capture counter-gradient transport. The analytic solution is compared against the RDT results of [2], and a new set of model coefficients is proposed in order for both approaches to yield similar results. Finally, the extended model is validated in a stably stratified situation studied experimentally in [3, 4].
