ABSTRAKT

A spray of water droplets in air receiving a strong irradiation from an external source is simulated. The numerical solution is sought combining a Finite Volume Method to deal with the energy balance and a Discrete Ordinates Method for the radiative transfer equation. Numerical predictions are performed and discussed on spectral transmissivity computations through the spray and on combined heat exchanges inside the spray. The respective influence of the physical phenomena involved in the global heat transfer is studied. Analysis of temperature and moisture distributions in a given spray demonstrates that the radiative transfer is balanced by droplet vaporization and convection due to droplet fall induced flow. Addressing all these phenomena, the simulation yields a temperature level close to the one of the surrounding conditions, despite the possible strong heat source due to radiation.
