AB Lectin from the mushroom Tricholoma mongolicum, a number of plant lectins including soybean (Glycine max) lectin, pokeweed (Phytolacca americana) lectin, tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) lectin, wheat germ (Triticum vulgaris) lectin, and jackbean lectin (Con A) were administered intravenously into normotensive rats via the external jugular vein, and the mean arterial pressure was measured. It was found that all the aforementioned lectins produced a dose-dependent hypotensive effect. The mushroom lectin was less potent than the soybean lectin but more potent than the other plant lectins. The hypotensive activities of wheat germ lectin and Con A were weaker than those of soybean lectin, pokeweed lectin, and tomato lectin. Soybean lectin displayed the most potent hypotensive activity.
