Flow patterns are analyzed over a range of a Rayleigh number, in which steady convective rolls are induced by buoyancy. Effects of buoyancy on heat transfer are also examined for ducts with the aspect ratio of 2-6. Both the Nusselt number and the entrance length for full development of mixed convection are shown to exhibit irregular variations as the number of longitudinal rolls changes with the aspect ratio. %8 1998-06-01
