RT Journal Article ID 0e95c3576a527fb8 A1 Barinova, S. S. T1 An assessment of the state of aquatic ecosystems of Novaya Zemlya Archipelago (Novozemel'skiy reserve, Russia) JF International Journal on Algae JO IJA YR 2000 FD 2000-09-01 VO 2 IS 3 SP 62 OP 69 AB The results of algological studies of water bodies of Novaya Zemlya Archipelago within the territory of Novozemel'skiy reserve (Russia) are presented; saprobic indices were calculated. The state of aquatic ecosystems by the model, which establishes a link between the indices of biodiversity and hydrochemical indices and makes it possible to determine the stage of succession and its directionality, was assessed. Retrospective calculation of saprobic indices, based on the literature data, was performed. A comparison between the state of aquatic ecosystems registered in the 1930s and the state of aquatic ecosystems observed at present was made. It has been found that the processes of self-purification occur intensively. The state of aquatic ecosystems is closely similar to that peculiar to the natural background.
