Direct Contact Condensation at a Water-Vapor Interface

ABSTRAKT

An experimental investigation of direct contact condensation heat transfer has been undertaken for the case where the process takes place at the interface between saturated steam and subcooled water in a vertical cylindrical test section. The turbulent velocity fluctuations below the interface, which are generated by the injection of a submerged jet of subcooled water vertically upwards towards the interface, have been measured using a hot film anemometer. A correlation is proposed in terms of a condensation Stanton number based on turbulent velocity fluctuation near the interface on the liquid-side. Our results are in good agreement with those of others for similar configurations when compared in terms of condensation Stanton number.
