ABSTRAKT

Methods of selective excitation of lead atoms to Rydberg states by laser emission are analyzed. The excitation to nP states with resolution of the fine structure of transitions is performed in two stages 6p2→ 6p7s[1/2,1/2]1→ nP{[1/2,1/2]1,[1/2,1/2]0,[1/2,3/2]1,[1/2,3/2]2} within the principal quantum number range n = 30−75. A technique of three-stage excitation of PbI atoms to nS and nD Rydberg states has been first suggested and implemented. The method is based on random coincidence of the transition frequency of the second excitation stage 6p7s[1/2,1/2]1→ 6p7p[1/2,3/2]1 with the fundamental emission frequency of the YAG:Nd3+ laser.
