EFFECT OF ADJUVANTS ON ATOMIZATION OF PESTICIDES
ABSTRAKT
In agricultural practices, adjuvants are mixed with pesticide formulations in the spray tank solution. Four commonly used surfactants for cropping were evaluated for their influence on spray performance. In a spray test, the volume median diameter, Dv 0.5 (the volume percentage of droplets below 100 μm and the relative span value), was analyzed for a range of nozzles. When using different adjuvants, a totally different Dv 0.5 was sometimes obtained, compared to spraying pure water. The concentration of these adjuvants plays an important role. Increasing the pressure resulted in a decrease of droplet size. At a pressure of 3 bar, the intensity of the effects of the adjuvants was similar to that at a pressure of 2 bar. When the reduction in surface tension is taken into consideration to explain the droplet behavior in spray performance, it can be concluded that a logical relationship is not always found, and that the type of nozzle in use should always be considered.
