A NEW METHOD TO CALCULATE CONDUCTION THERMAL RESISTANCES AND APPLICATION TO HOLLOW PIPES WITH VARIOUS CROSS SECTIONS

ABSTRAKT

In this paper, a new computational approach to calculate the shape factors in thermal physics is presented. After a brief description of this concept, the approach is explained for two-dimensional problems involving a constant temperature region surrounded by another constant temperature region, with a third region in between acting as a thermal resistance. In particular, this kind of configuration can be found when one needs to calculate the thermal resistance of a hollow pipe with complex geometry. The results obtained by this method are compared with shape factors available in the literature for given geometries, in which very good agreement is shown. The application is extended to evaluate new shape factors in other geometries and configurations. The advantages and limits are also discussed.
