FLUID-SURFACE INTERACTION BETWEEN A PAIR OF RECTANGULAR CYLINDERS AND EFFECT OF GAP SPACE ON THEIR INTERACTION
ABSTRAKT
Numerical study is performed on fluid-surface interaction between rectangular cylinders in lower Reynolds number flows. A pair of rectangular cylinders is placed with their longer side walls in either parallel or perpendicular direction to the flow stream, referred to as parallel or perpendicular arrangement, respectively. The Reynolds number is varied together with the ratio of the frontal width, d, of each cylinder to the cylinder spacing, 8, to determine the effects of surface configuration and flow velocity on the flow behavior. Both arrangement cases are treated and compared. It is found that (i) for the case of two cylinders in the absence of a gap, the flow, which behaves as in the case of a single cylinder, appears in the downstream direction, (ii) although the flow at d/δ = 0.4 occurs in the downstream direction around each cylinder, respectively, the corresponding thermal diffusion effect is suppressed due to a narrow gap, and (iii) thermal diffusion at d/δ = 1.0 yields from each cylinder and the behavior is not affected by the presence of a cylinder.
