FLOW VISUALIZATION OF A JET IN A TURBULENT CROSS FLOW

ABSTRAKT

Smoke flow visualization and shadowgraphs in a water channel show the effect of background turbulence and jet angle on the location of the center line and spread of a jet in a cross flow. The jet Re numbers are of the order of 600 and injection ratios are from 0.5 to 200. The injection angles range from 20° to 160° with respect to the cross-flow direction. Grid and boundary—layer turbulence are employed. It is found that turbulence increases the depth of penetration and spread of the jet.
