Augmented Forced Convective Cooling of an Isoflux-Heated Section in a Channel with an Inserted Rhombic Deflector

ABSTRAKT

The central parts of the upper and lower walls of a parallel-walled channel contain continuous flash-mounted heating elements, whereas the upstream and downstream portions are thermally insulated. The first objective of this paper is to explore the feasibility of inserting a rhombic deflector at the mid-plane of the heated section to pursue potential enhanced cooling. As the second objective, the optimal placement of the rhombic deflector was studied by displacing it in the streamwise direction while facing the heated section. At the end, the trade-off between the maximum wall temperature (a local quantity) and the elevated pressure drop (a global quantity) was assessed by introducing their product as a figure-of-merit parameter ΔpTmax. For all laminar airflows tested, the rhombic deflector creating two symmetric planar jets produced favorable dividends.
