Influence of pH on the Migration of Various Forms of Metals in the "Bottom Sediments - Water" System under Experimental Conditions
ABSTRAKT
Results of experimental simulation of the influence of pH on the migration of metals (Mn, Cr, Zn, Pb, and Mo) in the "bottom sediments - water" system are discussed in the paper. The values of pH of the natural water accounted for 8.3, 7.0, and 6.0. In the experimental systems with pH of the water of 7.0 and 6.0 after three days of exposure, the concentration of dissolved oxygen decreased to 0. As a consequence, manganese migrated from the bottom. Its concentration in the water was 3.0 mg/L. The influx of other studied metals was also observed. They income both in the form of free ions and in the form of organic complexes. At pH 8.3, they income mainly in the form of organic complexes (60−80%). A decrease in pH was accompanied by the increase in the intensity of metals migration mainly at the expense of free ions (70−75%). The lowest intensity of migration from bottom sediments into the water was typical to lead and molybdenum, which was conditioned by their low content in bottom sediments, and also by the peculiarities of their distribution among their different fractions.
