Influence of Heated Waters Discharge on Zooplankton of Various Cooling Ponds of Nuclear Power Stations
ABSTRAKT
In two various cooling ponds of nuclear power stations located within various catchment areas differing in their hydrographic characteristics and zooplankton composition, plankton invertebrates differed in their response to technogenic influence. In Koporskaya Bay of the Gulf of Finland, the discharge of heated waters of the Leningrad Nuclear Power Station resulted in the decrease in the quantitative indices of zooplankton. In the cooling pond of the Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Station on the Pyshma River, heated waters discharge resulted mainly in the increase in the numbers and biomass of plankton invertebrates. In both studied water bodies, heated waters discharge resulted in the decrease in the total number of zooplankton species. Pelagic species with a wide or worldwide distribution prevailed in terms of their numbers and biomass.
