Freshwater Mollusks in the Exclusion Zone of the Chernobyl NPS: Dynamics of Radionuclide Content, Dose Loads, and Cytogenetic and Hematological Investigations
ABSTRAKT
Dynamics of 90Sr, 137Cs, and transuranium elements accumulation in freshwater Bivalvia of the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl NPS were analyzed in 1995−2008. Results of the assessment of dose loads, frequency of chromosome aberrations, and hemolymph composition in Lymnaea stagnalis are presented. The capacity of the absorbed dose was registered within the range from 0.3 to 85.0 μGr/hour. A rather high frequency of chromosome aberrations (to 27%) in the tissues of embryos, as well as changes in hematological indices in the adult specimens of mollusks, was registered in the closed water bodies.
