ABSTRAKT

Monitoring of A.V. Fomin Botanical Garden was performed by means of UAV survey and satellite image data. Output products included a high-resolution visual map, a map of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), a digital elevation model (DEM), height and thermal maps. These data were used to assess potential of selected trees in mitigating "urban heat island" effect, in particular, trees areas, height, volume and photosenthetic potential. In such a way we found the most promising tree species in terms of recurring effect of the "urban heat island". The results give indication of UAV great potential in studying urban vegetation for effective urban planning.
