摘要
Research and development in numerical fluid mechanics and heat transfer continue at an accelerating pace. The increasing use of parallel or vector processing and supercomputers makes the whole field even more exciting and challenging. Many complex physical problems, previously considered intractable, are now within numerical reach. These rapid developments have led to an evergrowing body of literature in a wide range of topics in fluid mechanics and heat transfer. Against this broad and dynamic background this book series was initiated to devote itself exclusively to expository, comprehensive, state-of-the-art reviews by specialists in various fields.
The favorable response from the science and engineering communities to the first volume of Annual Review of Numerical Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer confirms the view that this serial publication is playing a significant role in serving the scholarly community. The present volume contributes to the original objective of improved communication by presenting coordinated and unified chapters on important developments in numerical fluid mechanics and heat transfer. Each chapter starts from well-understood basic principles underlying the physics and computational aspects of the applications and then proceeds in a logical fashion to bring the reader up to the forefront of the topic. We express our deep appreciation to the authors of this volume for their excellent contributions.
During the preparation for this volume the founding editor, Dr. T. C. Chawla, became ill and required a lengthy period of recuperation. Due to this unexpected happening, Dr. Chang-Lin Tien, A. Martin Berlin Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley, has now become the new editor of the series. The new editor looks forward to this most challenging endeavor and sincerely welcomes suggestions, cooperation, and support from all interested members of the scholarly community.
