摘要

The rapid escalation of FCI's from small triggers, observed experimentally, suggests that mechanisms other than differential velocity fragmentation are operating. We describe small scale experiments with water/tin and Freon 22/ water in which evidence for a boiling fragmentation process has been observed. The basic feature of this process is the rapid growth of submillimetre-scale bubbles. We suggest that turbulent-mixing is produced by the bubble-driven velocity field. The likelihood of this mechanism occurring with Na/UO2 and its implications are briefly considered.
