T1 Feedback Problems in Forced-Convective Condensation Heat Transfer JF Heat Transfer Research JO HTR YR 1999 FD 1999-11-30 VO 30 IS 7-8 SP 422 OP 430 AB A survey is presented of the unsolved problems in forced-convective condensation heat transfer theory taking into account structure-related thermo-hydraulic feedback phenomena (connected with the influence of condensation on structural characteristics of two-phase flow). During the last decades advances in forced-convective condensation heat transfer theory mainly were connected with accounting for the friction-related thermo-hydrodynamic feedback effect (based on the concept of two-phase laminar boundary layer or on the basis of an asymptotic suction-type interphase friction law). At the same time a few heat transfer researchers are putting in the forefront some structure-related thermohydrodynamic feedback phenomena (influence of heat transfer on the structural characteristics of two-phase flow and vice versa) causing principal difficulties in further development of the theory. In this regard some problems have arisen through the choice of the strategies of experimental research which, as a rule, does not include investigations of significant details of two-phase flow such as the influence of condensation rate on the separation of the vapor boundary layer or condensate film detachment during cross-flow condensation or on the flow regimes in vapor and liquid phases during annular flow condensation and vice versa. It is concluded that incorporation through analysis of the peculiarities mentioned above should provide an opportunity for further progress in forced-convective condensation heat transfer theory.
