Using theoretical frame, methodology and interpretive strategies of Afrocentric theory, I assume the African-centered perspective Afrocentricity demands of scholars examining phenomena related to the African experience. Hence, I analyze Chief Mandombi's example by examining the moral imperative informing it. Moreover, 1 contend that understanding the moral basis of chief Mandombi's participation as subject and cohort in the "sleeping sickness experiment" can enhance our understanding of the interaction of African-Americans and science. I focus on the lives of Charles Richard Drew, Percy Lavon Julian, Ernest Everett Just, and Margaret Morgan Lawrence as representative members of the scientific community. %8 1995-09-30
