This parameter completely determines the emissivity at the line maximum from which the temperature can be deduced. The accuracy of the OPA approach in reconstructing the line contour is proved to be significantly higher than that of the Bartels, especially for higher optical depths. A numerical experiment is then performed using realistic functions for the spatial distributions of both the ground-state density and the source function of the sodium D-line, similar to those in a sodium-iodide arc lamp. Application of the OPA to the analysis of the D-lines emitted from this numerical discharge enable us to determine the inhomogeneity parameter. %8 2006-12-01
