VISUALIZATION AND NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF TWO-PHASE FLOW BETWEEN ELECTRODES ON ALKALINE WATER ELECTROLYSIS

ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this research is to investigate effects of membrane filter on the efficiency of alkaline water electrolysis under forced convection of electrolyte, especially focusing on the optimum condition of water electrolysis. Visualization experiments show that the electrolysis efficiency is decreased and the optimum electrode space becomes wider due to the existence of a membrane. Numerical simulation was also performed by the PHOENICS TWO-PHASE FLOW software that demonstrates the possibility of obtaining the optimum condition of water electrolysis only by numerical simulations.
