THERMAL INSTABILITY OF COUPLE-STRESS NANOFLUID WITH VERTICAL ROTATION IN A POROUS MEDIUM

摘要

Linear stability analysis for the onset of convection of rotating couple-stress nanofluid in a porous medium is investigated theoretically. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The Darcy model is used for the porous medium. The flux of volume fraction of nanoparticles is taken to be zero on the isothermal boundaries. The relevant equations are linearized using Boussinesq approximation, the perturbed quantities are analyzed in terms of normal modes, and the resulting eigenvalue problem is solved numerically by Galerkin technique. Oscillatory convection cannot occur for the problem. The effects of couple-stress parameter, rotation, Lewis number, modified diffusivity ratio, concentration Rayleigh number, and porosity on stationary convection are investigated both analytically and graphically.
