EFFECT OF COOLING WATER JET INCLINATION ON PLATE COOLING IN A RUN OUT TABLE AFTER HOT ROLLING

ABSTRACT

There have been numerous attempts to increase the cooling capacity of run out tables (ROTs) immediately after the hot rolling process. Such attempts include increasing the amount of cooling water supply, adjusting the arrangement of the cooling water supply nozzles, and maximizing the impingement effect of the cooling water jets. In this study, we numerically investigate the effect of the angle of inclination of the water jets on plate cooling. The forced convection between the jetted cooling water and running plate is expected to be boosted when using inclined cooling water jets. Five different angles of water jet inclination are investigated, and the plate cooling histories, temperature, and heat flux distributions on the plate surface, and resultant cooling capacities for each angle are compared.
