UNSTEADY CONJUGATE FORCED-CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER FROM A SPHERE FOR SMALL VALUES OF THE CONDUCTIVITY RATIO

ABSTRACT

Unsteady, conjugate, forced-convection heat transfer from a sphere to a surrounding fluid flow was analyzed for small values of thermal conductivity ratio. Two models of a sphere were considered: (1) a sphere with a rigid interface and (2) a sphere with a mobile interface and internal circulation. The fluid flow was considered axisymmetric, viscous, steady, and incompressible. The heat balance equations were solved numerically. The present computations focused on the conditions when the external resistance to heat transfer is negligible.
